What Can I Do For You?

I sometimes use this space to comment on what’s happening in the world. Lately, however, I've been soliciting work as a writer and/or communications manager. So let me say a bit on what I can do for your organization.

My background is split among media, corporate, and government work. I started out as a newspaper reporter. I worked for a very technical trade magazine in the auto industry. From there I went to corporate PR, working for Big Oil.

I did a decade of freelance work, writing for corporate and media clients. My focus was the auto industry, writing about cars and fuels. I spent four years at a Department of Energy science laboratory, covering alternative fuels and renewable energy. Currently I write articles about real estate investing.

I've traded and invested actively in financial markets--mostly stocks--for more than a decade. This experience amounts to an MBA-like education about Corporate America. I know a little about a lot of industries and a lot about a few, particularly in technology and energy.

I'm closely attuned to the markets, of course, and knowledgeable in the related fields of investing, banking, financial services and personal finance. As writers go, I'm a relative math whiz, comfortable in communicating about all things quantitative.

Beyond writing…I consider myself an exceptionally capable manager of communication projects as well as raw information. Trading has trained me to deal with a constant crush of data. I'm a spreadsheet jockey with expert database skills. I'm also pretty good at web design and maintenance and video and audio editing.

To communicate well is to figure out the forum and write appropriately for it. This is my greatest strength, and I believe a product of the breadth of my background.
